Common queries about my liver disease consulting services

1. Where are you located?

I am located in New York U.S. However I have clients worldwide including China, Australia and throughout Europe. I am accustomed to having Webex meetings at any time zone to accommodate your schedule.

2 I need an expert opinion/regulatory support/ hepatic adjudication immediately – can you accommodate this request?

Yes, my turnaround time for a full consultation is typically less than 48 hours and most of the time I provide same day service depending upon the size of the deliverable. I can respond on most weekends and Holidays.

3. How can you be reached?

Initial communication will be through drpalmer@liverdisease.com and once the official working relationship is established I respond to texts as well as and WhatsAPP chats.

4. Do you perform synopsis/protocol writing?

I can write the synopsis and suggest numerous study designs. I do not expand the synopsis into a full protocol, as this can be more cost-effectively performed with medical writing support. However, I provide a detailed review/comment on the entire protocol.

5. Do you Chair Scientific and Clinical Advisory Boards (SAB/CAB) in addition to Hepatic Adjudication Committees (HAC)?

Yes, I have extensive experience in setting up and chairing ad boards and HACs in addition to writing charters for HACs.

6. Are you open to board of director positions?

Yes

7.Are you Open to Full-Time Positions?

No. At this stage of my career, my objective is to collaborate with as many companies as I can to advance the safe and effective development of liver-targeted therapies for patients with liver disease of unmet medical need, and to ensure the hepatic safety of other therapeutics designed for individuals with any serious or underserved condition.

8. How long is turnaround time for CDAs and contract review?

As legal counsel is in-house, turnaround time is typically 24-48 hours.

9. What is your fee structure?

The initial meeting is free of charge. After a CDA is signed and deliverables defined, a fee structure is individually designed based fee/hour or fee/project basis. Size of company (e.g. start-up versus big pharma) and other variables are taken into consideration.

About Melissa Palmer, MD

Melissa Palmer, MD is an internationally renowned Hepatologist (KOL), CEO of Liver Consulting LLC and an experienced biotech/pharma executive. Dr. Palmer provides services as a Hepatology consultant for all types of liver diseases. Dr. Palmer is an experienced MASH consultant, DILI consultant, PSC consultant, Alcoholic hepatitis consultant and drug development consultant to the pharmaceutical industry. Dr Palmer is currently consulting on innovative trial designs for MASH and other liver diseases such as PSC, and acute on chronic liver failure, regulatory consultant (having co-authored numerous guidelines with FDA colleagues), and DILI. In addition, skills include formation of and sitting on advisory boards, DSMCs, commercialization and pipeline assessment, leading matrix teams etc. Dr. Palmer was in a solo practice devoted to treating patients with liver disease from 1991-2009, at which time she became Clinical Professor at NYU Langone/ Director of Hepatology at NYU Plainview. From 1991-2011 she was a consultant to > 40 biopharma companies as a liver disease expert. Dr. Palmer left NYU Langone to become SVP Clinical Research and Head of Hepatology at Kadmon Corporation. Dr. Palmer left Kadmon in 2015 to become Global Lead on Shire’s NASH program, as well as other liver-related issues within the company, such as orphan cholestatic liver diseases PFIC Alagilles, PSC and PBC, and liver-related safety issues (DILI), and was rapidly promoted to Global Development Lead – Hepatology and led the formation of the liver safety group. Shire was acquired by Takeda in 2019 at which time Dr. Palmer was recruited as Head of Liver Disease Development at Takeda. Dr. Palmer graduated from Columbia University with a B.A. and was trained in Hepatology (as well as medical school) at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City. She has authored numerous medical and lay-public books and book chapters and contributed to three encyclopedias on liver-related topics. Her scientific publications have appeared in such peer-reviewed journals as Hepatology, Gastroenterology, Seminars of Liver Disease, Transplantation, AP&T and she is a contributing editor of several peer-reviewed journals.
